If you are waiting for someone to travel with you… You may end up waiting a life time.
DISCLAIMER: The cities included in the list is based on my personal preference only. Also, whether you celebrate Valentine’s day with someone special, with friends or on your own, these cities would still make you fall in love with its charm no matter what.
As February is known as the ‘Month of Love’ what better way to celebrate this month by spending time with your loved ones, friends and family. Or, better yet take a short break or getaway and visit some of Europe’s most romantic cities.
- PARIS, FRANCE ‘City of Love’
- VENICE, ITALY ‘ Bride of the Sea’
- SANTORINI, GREECE previously known as Kallístē ‘The beautiful one’
- ISTANBUL, TURKEY ‘The Imperial City’
- BUDAPEST, HUNGARY ‘Heart of Europe’
‘Actually the best you could have given her was a lifetime of adventures’
PARIS, FRANCE
This city is known for its nickname ‘City of Love’. Apart from being dubbed as the Cradle of Fashion, Paris is one of the top destinations for couples and people who are looking for love. Thanks to its beautiful architecture, romantic vibes and gourmet cuisine what more can you ask for?
If you love shopping and do have the budget to splurge, visit the most famous street in Paris called Champs Elysee’s. If you like shopping malls visit Dome des Galleries LaFayette. If museums tickle your fancy the best place to go visit is Louvre
TIP: For a more romantic evening, look for a restaurant to dine in with views of the Eiffel Tower. Or, visit Trocadero which is on the opposite side of the Eiffel Tower and get a perfect view of the light show.
VENICE, ITALY
Venice is commonly known for its canals. H
There are a few more romantic cities in Italy that you need to take a not of like Verona, Rome, Florence and Positano. This is on top my list as the canals, bridges, gondolas and stunning sunset views just ticks all the boxes for a romantic getaway.
TIP: Enjoy a romantic date by taking a private gondola ride with prosecco (if you love your alcohol ;)) plus get serenaded by Gondolier. Try and book your private gondola ride just before sunset to appreciate more of Venice’s romantic sunset.
SANTORINI, GREECE
Apart from being one of the top honeymoon destinations or what they call ‘Honeymoons Paradise’ Santorini boasts one of the most beautiful sunset experience and showcases stunning landscapes. It is also famous for its picturesque whitewashed houses and blue coloured domes creating an airy and relaxing vibe.
Greece does have a few islands scattered on the Aegean Sea, however thanks to its exhilarating views and location Santorini was able to make it to the list of top destinations for newlywed couples and most romantic cities in the world.
TIP: Try Island hopping during the day and explore more of the island surrounding Santorini. Catch Santorini’s most stunning sunset together with your loved one and enjoy a candle lit dinner afterwards whilst listening to the sound of the waves.
ISTANBUL, TURKEY
As the city of Istanbul is located in between Europe and Asia, this city makes it on top of my list. This ‘Imperial City’ offers a lot more than you can imagine starting from cuisines, attractions, architecture, fashion and experiences. This is also one of the most affordable cities included in this list. This means that you can make the most of your budget when spending a romantic getaway in Istanbul.
TIP: Make the most of Istanbul start your day by trying out an authentic Turkish Breakfast along with either Turkish Tea or Turkish Coffee (UNESCO Cultural Heritage of Humanity).
Just before the sun sets, take a ride on one of Istanbul’s famous Bosphorus tour and see more of the different areas/parts of Istanbul. Just before you end your day, why not experience Turkish Bath with your loved one and de-stress and relax your night away.
BUDAPEST, HUNGARY
Another affordable European city included in this list is Budapest know as the ‘Heart of Europe’ due to its central location. Budapest is included in my list of most underrated cities in Europe, as compared to the previously mentioned cities not everyone knows of Budapest.
Did you know that the river Danube separates the city Buda (old historic buildings) and Pest (new and modern architecture) from each other? Read more of my experience about Budapest here.
TIP: Visit Buda Castle, Matthias Church and the Fishermans Bastion on top of the hill during the day and appreciate the beautiful scenic views of the entire city of Budapest. Also, get a picture perfect view of the other iconic buildings of Budapest through the Danube Boat tour.
If you enjoy relaxing during your romantic getaway visit the famous Szechenyi Thermal Bath known for its healing and medicinal properties.
Fill your life with adventures, not things, have stories to tell not stuff to show.
HAPPY VALENTINES to all couples out there, and HAPPY SINGLE AWARENESS day to those who haven’t found the one they are looking for.
I hope this post inspires you to travel and visit
