To all fashion lovers, brand fanatics and trendsetters February and September are known as the ‘Fashion week’ month where all big brands come together and show-off their newest collections and designs for the season.
The BIG FOUR –LONDON, PARIS, MILAN and NEW YORK are known as the Fashion Capital cities of the world, hosting the most famous and glamorous fashion week in the world.
Apart from having the most talented designers and creators, the city offers fine cuisine representing their own country’s specialty.
DISCLAIMER: This is not a fashion related post. This post is a travel related post featuring 3 of Europe’s most iconic Fashion Capital cities hence the title.
FASHION CAPITAL CITIES OF EUROPE – and what they have to offer
1. MILAN, ITALY – Design powerhouse
Dating back to 11th century, Italy already has made its mark on the map for its outstanding textiles production namely silk, wool and velvet. One of the most powerful cities at the time was Milan. Other cities included in the list are Venice, Florence and Naples to name a few.
Nowadays Milan is known as the style powerhouse of famous brands like Armani, Prada, Versace and Valentino. Most of the designers are popular for its Pret-A-porter or ready to wear design category especially suited for everyday activities.

Visit DUOMO DI MILANO
If you are looking for the best shopping street’s in Milan? The best itinerary is to stop by at Duomo Di Milano, appreciate its architecture then follow the street from Piazza del Duomo towards Corso Vittorio Emanuel II.
Corso Vittorio Emanuel II is one of my favourite fashion street in Milano. Rows and rows of high street fashion stores aligned all in one street. What more can you ask for?
Aside from fashion, the city of Milan boasts Gothic inspired buildings such as the famous Duomo di Milano Cathedral. The Cathedral is included in the list of Largest Christian church in the world.
Visiting the church will cost you around 3,50euro. Extra charges apply if you would like to visit the museum and Baptistery.
One of the most popular activity to do when visiting the Cathedral is making your way up the rooftop terrace. Duomo’s rooftop terrace offers one of the most breathtaking views of the cities.
The rooftop terrace can be accessed via lift (from 14,50 euro) or stairs (from 10,50 euro). Make sure to have your camera ready for one spectacular view of the city of Milan.

HOW TO GET THERE?
The most accessible mode of transport to get to Duomo is via public transport. Metro is a common choice as the stop is directly beneath the Duomo square. The stop is called Piazza Duomo via Line 1 and Line 3 of Milan Metro.
There are bus stops around that are connected all through out the different areas of around Milan. Buses from Milan Linate Aiport and Milan Malpensa Aiport do stop by Duomo. Therefore, if you arrived earlier than your check in time, why not drop by Duomo Church.
Shop at GALLERIA VITTORIO EMMANUEL II
Are you a die hard brand lover or just enjoy shopping? Look no further. Another popular destination within the area around Duomo is Galleria Vittorio Emmanuel II, known as Milan’s drawing room. This is one of Italy’s oldest shopping arcade. This houses brands such as Prada, Gucci and Louis Vuitton.
When planning to visit this place, there is no need to worry about fees as it is Free!!! Make sure you drop by and appreciate the outstanding architecture of the entire building.

Paris is known as the cradle of fashion and the epicentre of High Fashion. The city houses the famous Chanel, Yves Saint Laurent, Louis Vuitton, Hermes, and Christian Dior.

Visit EIFFEL TOWER at Night
One of the most iconic structure in the world and in France is the Eiffel Tower. Named after the engineer Gustave Eiffel. This outstanding piece of structure is made up of iron lattice standing at 300m high.
There are two viewing decks available, the first viewing deck is what they call ‘second floor’. Perfect for those who would love to see the view of the entire city in a manageable height below the ground. The second one is called ‘the top’. Perfect for adventurous people and those who would love a much greater view of the entire city.
There are two ways to access the different viewing deck via lift or via stairs.
To access the top floor, via lift, this will cost you around 25,50 euro. 16,30 euro to access second floor via lift. To access the top floor, via lift + stairs, will cost you 19,40 euro. 10,20 euro to access second floor via stairs. This is all up to your own preference.

One of the best times to visit the Eiffel tower will be in the evening. During the evening the Eiffel tower is dressed up with beautiful bright lights.
The evening light show creates a romantic atmosphere. This also makes the tower stand out during the darkest hours. There is nothing more romantic than having dinner whilst watching the Eiffel tower light show at the same time.
HOW TO GET THERE?
The nearest Metro station to get to Eiffel Tower is Champ de Mars on Line 6 (10min walk), Line 8 (15min walk) & Line 9 (15min walk_. Another option is Tour Eiffel stop if you take the RER C which is 7 mins walk.
If you are taking the bus, number 82 (Eiffel Tower stop) drops you in front of the Eiffel Tower. Another is bus number 42 (Tour Eiffel stop) which stops at Avenue de la Bourdonnais, 5 min walk from the bus stop to Eiffel Tower.
Visit Louvre Museum
The Louvre Museum is the largest museum in Paris housing the most famous Mona Lisa painting by Leonardo Da Vinci. Before entering the Museum have a walk around and take photos of the Louvre Palace (gothic-inspired architecture) surrounding the area.
Also, don’t forget the Louvre pyramid located at the courtyard. The pyramid is made out of glass and metal creating contrast in the buildings around.
Make sure to check the website for the latest fees and opening times before visiting the place. The Louvre does get long queues.
HOW TO GET THERE?
The nearest metro station is Louvre Rivoli (9min walk) and Palais Royal Musee du Louvre (2min walk) both stops are at Line 1. Another option is to either take a bus, Uber or taxi. This is dependent on your budget and preference.

3. LONDON, UK – Influential trendsetter
Noted as the Most influential city in terms of Fashion dating back the 16th century. London has the trendsetting reputation across the world. Housing some of the most iconic designers of all time Stella McCartney, Burberry, Viviene Westwood, John Galliano and Alexander McQueen.
Things to do when in London
Visit Tower Bridge and check out Big Ben
One of the most iconic bridges in the world is the UK’s tower bridge. The bridge spans across the river Thames and connects both the north and south bank of London.
This bascule bridge has a Victorian Gothic-inspired architecture which took 8 years to build, managed by 5 different contractors. The bridge was designed to ease the traffic around the East London area due to the rise of commercial buildings.
Visiting the Tower Bridge is FREE when taking pictures of the exterior and if you would like to walk across from one end to another.

HOW TO GET THERE?
Nearest tube station (Metro – EU/Subway – US) will be Tower Hill station (District and Circle line). Another option is to walk from London Bridge tube station (Northern and Jubilee Line) which is a 12min walk approximately.

If Paris has got Eiffel Tower and New York has got Empire State building, the UK has got Big Ben. Big Ben stands tall at 315 feet, erected on May 1859, situated beside the House of the Parliament.
Note: Big Ben is currently under renovation however the clock is still visible despite the tower being covered with scaffolding. The best spot to take photos of the entire structure is from afar. Most people would prefer taking photos from the junction between Parliament St and Great George street.
Another great spot would be on the opposite side of the river bank. Walk across the bridge and take the stairs on your right towards St Thomas Hospital. You’ll get a full view of the Clock Tower as well as the House of the Parliament.
HOW TO GET THERE?
Nearest Tube station is Westminster Station (District and Cicle Line). The Nearest Mainline station will be London Victoria (21mins walk) and Charing Cross Station (13mins walk).
Buses and taxis around the mainline station are available 24/7. When taking the bus make sure you check the timetable and the route it is going to. If you are still unsure you can always ask the bus driver as they are always happy to assist you with any queries.

If you’re visiting London, before you start your day make sure to fill up your energy with the all-time classic English breakfast.
Nothing beats a hearty breakfast in the morning. Partner it with a tea or coffee or better yet orange juice to add a splash of energy. Make sure to try out black pudding if you are not a fussy eater.
Also, make sure to visit a local pub near your hotel or accommodation to experience the traditional British dining. Nothing beats a simple fish and chips if you love seafood. Try out shepherds pie if you enjoy pies and the all-time favourite Sunday roast with Yorkshire Pudding.
One of the most popular pub chains is called Wetherspoons but all pubs offer their own specialty.
