1. Poland is budget-friendly

Poland is a fantastic place to visit if you want to travel but can’t afford the transportation and accommodation costs of many major European cities.

While Airbnb is an affordable option; you may find that even 5* hotels in Poland are within your budget, as some will only set you back €70-80 per night!

If you are on a super tight budget and want to maximise your spending as much as possible, then definitely consider staying in a hostel which will set you back only €10 per night!

2. The food is amazing

Not often thought of as a top gastronomic destination, Poland is actually a fantastic place to discover new and exciting food. Poles enjoy their comfort food as much as the next person, but they are so much better at making it!

Famed for their big portions of traditional, hearty food – you might find yourself putting on a few pounds while you’re there! Dig in and enjoy some pierogis alongside a Polish hunter’s stew and you’ll be ready to get on with your day of sightseeing!

3. Poland is not ‘Eastern Europe’

It is always good to understand some of the social and cultural issues of the country you are visiting. Poland has a long and complicated history, which only gets more complex after World War II, so make sure to be respectful and considerate of this when on your visit.

One of the most common mistakes for tourists to make when in Poland is to call it an Eastern European country when, in fact, it is part of Central Europe. So, avoid doing this unless you want to offend locals and highlight your ignorance.

4. Plan day trips

There are so many incredible attractions in Poland that it would be difficult to see it all unless you are there for months! However, if you are staying in or around the Krakow area, then you will most likely want to visit the former concentration camp Auschwitz-Birkenau.

Although, this is not a typical ‘holiday activity’, it is essential to bear witness to the atrocities that took place there and to reflect on ways we can stop it from ever happening again.

You can take a bus from Krakow to Auschwitz for only 14zl (approximately €3.20), or you can pay to take an all-inclusive guided tour of the camp, with transportation included. It is advisable to book any tours in advance, as they can sell out quickly.
